The high level of hygiene required in a hospital environment means that Patient Support Services' operators need to be able to guarantee a high standard of cleaning while working within budget constraints. It's essential to choose the right industrial cleaning machinery to save on operating labour and the cost of ownership.

Following a visit to Fremantle Hospital in Perth, Western Australia – where i-mops have been in use for several years – we were glad to get some valuable insights on the experience of the Patient Support Services team:

  • There are 9 to 10 i-mops in use throughout the hospital
  • i-mops are used to clean vinyl and tiled surfaces
  • i-mops are used in entrance areas, wards, theatre cleaning, and room discharge cleaning
  • i-mops are also used for cleaning room bathrooms after discharge
  • Microfibre mopping is still used to clean rooms with patients
  • Staff have all been thoroughly trained in daily machine cleaning and maintenance and this has been key to a very low total cost of ownership
  • A chlorinated detergent is used for cleaning theatre areas. General areas are cleaned with neutral detergent. Machines are thoroughly rinsed after each clean.
  • i-mops must be dusted before use to avoid hair and debris being caught in the squeegee
  • Using the hard red brushes on some surfaces has given superior results
  • i-mops have been progressively rolled out over time due to budget limitations

We were glad to gain some valuable personal insights from the Patient Support Services Coordinator on his journey with i-mops after 25 years of experience:

“Very easy for staff to learn how to use."

“Find it a lot easier to clean than previous scrubbing machines we had."

“It’s worth the investment."

“Areas that don’t have an i-mop yet, we have staff writing that they would like to have an i-mop in their area."
